Career

Surgeon

Greuner works with the Holy Name Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital. He is the medical director of Centers for Special Surgery of Essex County. He is also managing director and co-founder of NYC Surgical Associates. Greuner and Dr. David Luu partnered with Adam Tonis of NYC Surgical to found NYClinic.

Work with Telangiectasia and Lipedema

The Dr. Oz Show featured Greuner in October 2013 to talk about Telangiectasia and how to treat it. He also spoke about vein disease in the June 2016 edition of 25a Magazine. Greuner uses a liposuction like procedure which removes dysfunctional fat cells using only a small incision in the leg, and has started a national public awareness campaign on lipedema treatment. His expertise in treating lipedema received international attention after a procedure profile in Daily Mail. He has developed the No-Knife Endovenous Laser Ablation. His procedure does not use the plastic sheath that was used before which leaves scars. The process uses a laser that is focused through a skinny needle to seal problems in veins.

Work with Fibroid embolization and Pelvic congestion

David Greuner has been active in helping develop fibroid embolization, an approach involving a thin catheter threaded right to the blood vessels feeding the fibroids. This process eventually extracts enough blood from the fibroid that it shrinks it. Greuner's approach involves inserting the catheter through a small artery in the wrist. Greuner is also involved in developing treatments for Pelvic congestion syndrome, a condition in which varicose veins develop around the ovaries.

Press Publishings

In 2016 a lawsuit alleged that over the course of 13 months Dr. David Greuner prescribed more than 1,300 doses of Demerol and Dilauded to a well-to-do businesswoman. Surgeon David Greuner was accused of supplying a former patient with "massive amounts of opiates" and charging her as much as $7,000 a day for multiple doses of highly addictive painkillers, according to a suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court. A $3 million malpractice suit filed by Maria Angeles Liberatore alleges that Dr. David Greuner turned his prescription pad into a cash machine, dosing her with almost 1,300 shots of Demerol and Dilauded, powerful opioids used to treat pain.

The Plaintiff had hired Dr. David Greuner for house calls and stated; "David Greuner became my drug dealer, regularly supplying me with Demerol, either personally or by sending his girlfriend or others to administer the drugs. While initially I would receive a daily injection from Greuner, it soon increased, to a point when he or his accomplices would inject me multiple times a day, charging me thousands of dollars." According to Dr. Seth Waldman, Director of the Pain Management Division of the Hospital for Special Surgery, it would be extremely unusual for a doctor to prescribe hundreds of Demerol shots for a single patient to be taken at home. "I can't think of a circumstance in which you do that to a single patient," said Waldman. "I can't imagine a condition where, for somebody who doesn't have a terminal illness, you would decide to manage them electively with injections of Demerol. That's hard to imagine." These actions and repeated behavior is not only considered to be a form of medical malpractice, Dr. David Greuner harmed a patient through negligence. Instead, Greuner did not behave as a doctor, but as a 'drug dealer', one who intentionally harms the health of another in order to make more for himself.

Greuner contributes to various media outlets where he discusses health topics including nutrition, stress, skin care, exercise, and other health issues. He has contributed to various journals and magazines including Readers Digest, Men's health, Murielle magazine, NY Post, Z!nk magazine, The Daily Meal, and various others.
